When An Individual Has Lung Cancer, There Is An Immediate

When an individual has lung cancer, there is an immediate rush of support. Family, friends, and acquaintances flock to their hospital room, and shower them with love and sympathy. These people are the support network essential to the cancer patient for a successful recovery. However, what happens when an individual is diagnosed with depression? An immediate look of disgust and accusing eyes glare at the victim. A rush of prejudice thoughts course through their minds, all thoughts associated with blaming the victim for falling into depression. Blaming the individual for their diagnosis, yet no one recognizes the abuse and trauma she endured as a result of living in a dysfunctional home. In other words, stigma is being conscious of a quality which makes someone feel flawed and disgraced. Sigma can also be viewed as prejudice, hate, and discrimination against oneself, or how others may perceive them. Stigma is everywhere, regardless if someone has a mental disorder. Moreover, stigma can be found in the world of females, not just restricted to individuals with mental disorders. For example, females were highly restricted on jobs, careers, wardrobes, downgraded to only household work, and raising children, etc., during the World War I era. Thus, a false stigma of females only being needed for men’s desires and housewife work, when in reality, females and male share a wide range of similarities in capability and strengths.
